Bathroom Resource List

People have been asking about the different fixtures and finishes I selected for the apartment, so I thought I would write up a resource list of each room, starting with the bathroom. Here are some recent pictures along with a list of items. Let me know if anyone wants more info. (The links are not necessarily to the stores from where I bought the items.)

Day 66 - Light Fixtures

Updated light fixtures were installed in the living room, hallway and bedroom. The fixture in the living room is probably too large for the space, but I think it will really finish off the room. The fixtures in the hallway and the bedroom are the same - the one in the bedroom is a bit larger. They still have to paint the ceiling around where the fixtures were installed (that's why the one in the living room is still covered in plastic).

Day 65 - Backsplash and Faucet

More tile arrived so they were able to finish the backsplash. The right faucet finally arrived (first one that was too tall, then one that was the wrong finish) and was installed so I now have running water in the kitchen! One more hook-up needed for the dishwasher and I will be able to start using it!

Day 64 - Backsplash and More Hardware

They began installing the backsplash tile in the kitchen, but unfortunately I didn't order enough to finish. More should be coming soon though.

And a few more hardware items in the bathroom were installed.

Day 63 - Hardware

I apologize that there has not been to much to report the last few days, but things are almost done now, so only a few finishing touches to show you. And that includes hardware that was installed in the bathroom....

(I personally installed the door knobs - the one thing I have actually done.)

...and on the kitchen cabinets.

Day 56 - Counter and Sink

Meet my new baby. Against almost everyone telling me I am crazy, I went with a white marble counter. It was installed today (along with the sink) and looks beautiful. Since it is more delicate and stains easier than other surfaces, I will be obsessed with cleaning and protecting it (I may only wipe it with a diaper). The stainless steel sink looks good, too.

They also came to fix part of my floors that had become exposed because my new kitchen isn't as deep as the old. It should dry to the same color as the rest of the floor - I hope!

Day 49 - Oven and Hood

The new oven and hood were installed today. The old gas line was outdated and not compatible with the new range so it had to be replaced - another unforseen setback (and expense!) - but it looks great.

Day 48 - Cabinet Doors, Recessed Lights

All of the cabinets are in, with their doors on, but still waiting on hardware. Holes have been cut in the soffit and wiring completed for three recessed lights. I also decided to have a panel run along the top and left side of the kitchen to encase the space in the same wood as the cabinets.

Day 45 - More Kitchen Cabinets

More kitchen cabinets have been installed and the dishwasher and refrigerator are in place. I decided to face the appliances in the cabinet wood so they would blend in and the whole kitchen would look like one built-in set of cabinets.

I also added a recessed pantry around the corner (in the hallway) for additional storage.

Day 42 - Kitchen Cabinets

They installed the first of the new kitchen cabinets today - really exciting! I went with a very dark, plain, flat-panel style in oak (so they would have a bit of texture). But the darkness makes it hard to see the detail in this picture.

Day 41 - Kitchen Demolition

They tore out the kitchen today and the old appliances have been moved to the patio awaiting salvage pick-up.

Day 40 - Kitchen (To be)

Those are the kitchen cabinets hanging out on the patio; safely protected.

Day 37 - More Bathroom, more molding

The mirror in the bathroom was installed today so the light fixtures could finally go in.

And more moulding in the living room and bedroom.

Day 36 - Kitchen (Before)

Demolition of the kitchen is going to begin in the next few days so I wanted to share the before pictures. Not much to say; its one wall with cabinets that currently look like driftwood. Stay tuned...

Day 31 - Base Moulding

The beginnings of the base moulding being installed in the living room.

Day 30 - Living Room and Hallway

Things have begun in the living room though not too much is planned for this room. Here is a before (as in, before I moved in) picture.

The walls have since been prepped and painted (same color as the bedroom).

And the casing moulding has been installed around the doors in the hallway.

Day 28 - Doors

New door on the bathroom...

...and I finally got a bedroom door (not that it gives me more privacy or anything since its glass, but still).

Day 25 - Paint

My bedroom is almost done being painted. The brick was repainted white and the rest of the walls a pretty, pale gray. After testing three shades on the wall, I decided to go with Sidewalk Gray (Benjamin Moore). It beat out Silver Lining (too blue) and Feather Gray (too green). Here it is in the bedroom (kind of hard to tell so I tried to get the brink in the shot).
I absolutely love it. Probably one of the only times I have loved the first color I chose and didn't have to go back and repaint. (But the pink bathroom is actually pretty great too.) They are also almost finished with my extra over-the door-storage nook. Looks like it was always there!

Day 23 - So close

Just a few more pieces of tile molding, a mirror and sconces and the bathroom will be finished. But it is gorgeous and ready to use as is. Here are a few pictures (I really need a wide-angle lens) before the inaugural shower.

Day 22 - Back to the Bathroom

New Tub? Nope, that is my old one but re-glazed. Looks brand new, amazing! I think this should be mandatory for all rental turnovers. If so, maybe I would have taken a bath once in the last four years I have lived in NY.

Day 21 - Moving on from the bathroom

Although there are few things left to be done in the bathroom, we are moving on to other parts of the apartment. Remember this fabulous arch?

(For those of you who have not been to my apartment, this is a very old before picture of the bedroom. Don't worry, I have not been sleeping on a bed made of just boxes and a duvet.)

Now: the "tribute to the 70s" is gone and the framing for a new bedroom door has begun. As well as a storage nook above - again, all the extra space you can get!

Warmly yours

...yes you are

Day 20 - Vanity and Paint

The vanity and sink went in today (sad to cover up so much of the floor, but I NEED storage) as well as the shower fixtures and the rest of the toilet. You can also see a hint of the pink walls (I'm a girl, leave me alone).
