Just a few more pieces of tile molding, a mirror and sconces and the bathroom will be finished. But it is gorgeous and ready to use as is. Here are a few pictures (I really need a wide-angle lens) before the inaugural shower.

Day 22 - Back to the Bathroom

Day 21 - Moving on from the bathroom
Although there are few things left to be done in the bathroom, we are moving on to other parts of the apartment. Remember this fabulous arch?
(For those of you who have not been to my apartment, this is a very old before picture of the bedroom. Don't worry, I have not been sleeping on a bed made of just boxes and a duvet.)
Now: the "tribute to the 70s" is gone and the framing for a new bedroom door has begun. As well as a storage nook above - again, all the extra space you can get!

Day 16 - Home Stretch
The floor is almost completely tiled; my design, Paul's handiwork - loving it! But I have to wait at least a week before trying out the radiant heat floor (too bad, I was hoping to test it out as a new nap spot). The walls are close, too, so just a few more finishing touches and I'll be able to post the "After" pictures.

Day 9 - More Tile
Bit of a delay because we had to wait for the building's plumbers to inspect the work of my contractors as well as try to determine the source of an ongoing leak coming from the apartment above into my bathroom. Turns out there is a lot of water damage in their bathroom behind the shower and will all need to be replaced (oops! sorry for the bad news). So, just a little more tile work and install of the medicine cabinet - fits like a glove.

Day 7 - Walls!
I was starting to get used to the spacious, exposed pipes look of my bathroom, but it has since been closed up with gypsum board and Durock. At least I have walls! You can more clearly see the space for the medicine cabinet and shower recesses. Also the electrical work for for the ceiling vent and sconces are in place.
Day 4 - More boxes...

Day 2 - New Framing
They've put in all new studs and framed for the recessed shower shelf and new medicine cabinet.
What you didn't know the previous owners left behind...
Styrofoam cups, open decades-old paint cans.... those weren't on the listing. What a score! If walls could talk mine'd be saying, "my previous owners hired lazy contractors" or "please recycle!" I am thinking of leaving behind some sort of prize or time capsule for the next people that dare to tear apart (what will be) my beautiful bathroom. Any suggestions on what to leave?
Day 1 - Green is gone
This was all done (or undone) in 1 day! Tile, drywall, mirror, sink, medicine cabinet, hamper...the contractors have pretty much torn everything out of the bathroom. Apparently what we are left with is a bit of a disaster. The plumbing and framing is a mess and basically has to be redone. But still pretty exciting to see what is behind the walls and built decades ago. In the picture on the bottom you can see the bottom of my upstairs neighbor's floor.

Trump SoHo?
Don't mistake this glorious green marble encased bathroom to be one at the Donald's SoHo hotel condominium. (Although if there was a gold swan lavatory faucet I may have been fooled too.) No, this is the bathroom in my "charming" (aka small) one bedroom apartment in SoHo. It is also the first project I am going to tackle (for obvious reasons) in the renovation of the apartment. Since many of you live out of state and have not had the honor of viewing the green "shrine" in person, nor the rest of my apartment, I thought I would post some pics and keep track of the renovation progress - you will definitely have to see the before to appreciate the after. Demolition starts today so stay posted!
